The owners of a leading Polish tabloid and radio station are to create a new popular television news channel.
The enterprise is being concocted by ZPR, the company behind the Super Express daily and Radio Eska.
“The decision has already been taken,” said Zbigniew Benbenek, owner of ZPR, in an interview with the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily.
“As for the name, we'll probably stick with Super Express television,” he added.
“We're going to show how you make truly tabloid television,” he promised.
“Within two years we want to have gained a 2-3 percent share of the [Polish] audience.”
Up until now, the only channel that offered a tabloid approach to news has been Superstacja, which has not managed to build a considerable following.
Benbenek made no secret that that project requires immense investment.
“The launching of the channel alone will cost over 10 million zloty [2 million euro],” he acknowledged.
The new channel is set to go on air this autumn.
Meanwhile ZPR is busy creating a multimedia newsroom that will cater for the entire group. (nh/pg)
