Polish Radio hosts digital broadcasting conference

Broadcasters from across Poland took part in the conference, entitled "More Radio," to find out about the prospects of developing this kind of technology and about ways of going digital.

During the conference, Poland’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) was expected to encourage broadcasters to embrace DAB+ technology and brief them on ways of obtaining licences for access to digital radio multiplexes.

Opening the conference, Polish Radio CEO Andrzej Rogoyski noted that Polish Radio on October 1, 2013 became the first broadcaster in Poland and its region to go digital.

The chairman of the National Broadcasting Council, Witold Kołodziejski, said ahead of Friday’s conference that digital DAB+ technology enabled listeners to not only hear a difference in sound quality, but also have access to a wider range of programmes.

The digitisation of radio broadcasting in Poland is one of the strategic goals of the National Broadcasting Council until 2022, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Polish Radio in February hosted a meeting of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Technical Committee to discuss DAB+ technology.

CEO Andrzej Rogoyski said at the time that the Polish public broadcaster was leading the way in digitising services in his country.
