The Polish economy grew 4.6 percent in the first quarter of this year, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said in a flash estimate on Wednesday.

The reading was a notch higher than expected by analysts.
Polish GDP grew 4.9 percent in the final quarter of last year and expanded by 5.1 percent in 2018 as a whole, according to the Central Statistical Office.
The European Commission last week raised its forecasts for Polish GDP growth this year and next.
The Commission, the executive arm of the European Union, said it expected the Polish economy to expand 4.2 percent in 2019 as a whole, rather than the 3.5 percent it predicted in February.
