Poland is preparing to build its first nuclear power plant, a project that the government plans to complete by 2033, the country’s energy minister said on Tuesday.

Krzysztof Tchórzewski said in a media interview that preparations were in progress to go ahead with the project at a site in the north of the country.
Tchórzewski told public broadcaster Polish Radio that a nuclear power plant was more expensive to build but far cheaper to operate than a conventional coal-fired facility of the same capacity.
He also said that Poland's energy policy to 2040 generated a lot of interest when it was discussed at the 11th European Economic Congress in the southern Polish city of Katowice.
