Remigiusz Górski, head of the bank’s Prague branch, said the Bratislava operation would serve both Polish companies with a presence in Slovakia and Slovak companies interested in the Polish market.
"We plan to start operations in Slovakia in the fourth quarter of this year,” Górski said.
“We have already analysed the Slovak market very thoroughly in business terms and in terms of our development strategy there," he added.
According to Poland’s Central Statistical Office, parts and accessories for motor vehicles and furniture such as chairs were among Poland’s top exports to Slovakia in 2017. Poland also exported electric power to its southern neighbour.
PKO BP has 10 million clients and is the largest bank in both Poland and throughout the region, public broadcaster Polish Radio reported in February.
The bank has recently been celebrating 100 years in existence.
