The two-day National Energy Summit in the northern city of Gdańsk was expected to focus on Poland's energy policy to 2040, including the role of fossil fuels and nuclear power.

Politicians and officials responsible for energy security were expected to sit down with economists, businessmen and academics to brainstorm topics such as a new energy mix for the country and ways of financing projects, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Expected participants included Energy Minister Krzysztof Tchórzewski, Environment Minister Henryk Kowalczyk, and Piotr Naimski, the Polish government's pointman on strategic energy infrastructure.

Public broadcaster Polish Radio is a media partner of the event, which runs in the Baltic port city until Tuesday.
