The paper cites new figures from the country’s central bank showing that Polish companies sold goods abroad worth almost EUR 18.5 billion in January.

That means a 4.1 percent increase in exports compared to the same month last year. It follows a rise of 2.3 percent in December.

Meanwhile, figures on imports of goods caused a surprise, Rzeczpospolita said.

These grew by 2.2 percent year on year in January, after a 3 percent increase in December. Analysts had expected a reading of 4.1 percent on average.

According to Rzeczpospolita, the slower growth of imports means Poland in January had a trade surplus of EUR 279 million in terms of goods.

The paper noted that in the whole of last year, May was the only month when the value of Polish exports outstripped the value of imports.
