Warsaw to subsidise stove replacement to curb smog

Warsaw’s City Hall has announced it will subsidise replacing old and inefficient stoves with more eco-friendly equipment as part of efforts to fight air pollution, Polish Radio's IAR news agency has reported.

It quoted Deputy Mayor Paweł Rabiej as saying that the Polish capital's poorest residents would soon be able to replace their stoves for free.
According to the news agency, Rabiej also said that, when it comes to tackling air pollution, Warsaw City Hall "is on the same side as the Polish government," which has launched a Clean Air programme to combat smog.
Rabiej was also quoted as saying that smog cannot be eliminated without limiting car traffic inside the city, and that City Hall aims to encourage residents to use public transportation.
