Polish senators vote to increase health spending to 6% of GDP by 2024

Healthcare expenditure in Poland will increase to at least 6 percent of GDP by 2024 under new legislation passed by the country’s parliament.

The upper house of the parliament, the Senate, late on Friday approved the plan in a 54-5 vote with 21 abstentions, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.
The bill was voted through by the Senate unamended to speed up earlier plans by the country’s conservative government to reach that level of healthcare spending by 2025.
Under the new timeline, the increase in expenditure will take place gradually, with no less than 4.78 percent of GDP spent on healthcare this year, followed by 4.86 percent next year, 5.03 percent in 2020, 5.30 percent in 2021, 5.55 percent in 2022, and 5.80 percent in 2023, PAP reported.
The bill now goes to President Andrzej Duda for signing into law.
