Polish investment minister heads to US for trade talks

Polish Investment Minister Jerzy Kwieciński is to visit Seattle on Friday with hopes of boosting ties with giant US companies Microsoft, Boeing and Amazon.

Kwieciński wants Poland to serve as Microsoft’s European IT back office for developing artificial intelligence, games, and the use of IT in education, Polish Radio's IAR news agency reported.
He hopes Poland’s dynamic information and communications technology market, which grew by 8.6 percent in 2017, will encourage Microsoft to invest in the country.
The investment minister is also set to talk to Boeing as Poland looks to grow its aviation sector.
Poland's national carrier LOT purchased six Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes in June, and it is expected to have 12 in its fleet by the end of next year.
The airline also has 11 Dreamliner jets and it is expecting four more.
Kwieciński also wants Amazon to continue investing in Poland.
The online retail giant has already invested USD 3 billion in Poland and recently announced it would employ 200 more people at its Technology Development Centre in the northern Polish city of Gdańsk, according to IAR.
While in Seattle, Kwieciński is also to take part on Saturday in an annual Polish Festival celebrating Polish cuisine, music and dance. (vb/pk)
