23% less cohesion policy funds for Poland in new EU budget: report

Poland will receive EUR 64.4 billion in cohesion policy funds under the European Union’s new budget, roughly 23 percent less than under the old budget, Polish Radio reported on Monday, citing what it described as unofficial sources.

The European Commission is due to officially announce details of the EU's 2021-2027 budget on Tuesday, the broadcaster said.
Poland stands to see its cohesion policy funding cut by more than 23 percent compared with the 2014-2020 budget, according to the public broadcaster.
Poland is entitled to almost EUR 84 billion in cohesion policy funds under the bloc’s 2014-2020 budget according to 2018 prices, Polish Radio said.
Despite the impending cut, Poland will remain the largest beneficiary of the EU’s cohesion policy, ahead of Italy, which will receive EUR 38.6 billion from 2021 to 2027, the Polish public broadcaster said, citing figures calculated by chiefs of staff to EU commissioners.
There will less money in the new EU budget due to the impending exit of the United Kingdom from the bloc and new spending priorities such as defence policy and migration, Polish Radio reported.
The European Commission, the bloc’s executive, on May 2 proposed a new long-term EU budget for 2021-2027.
The Polish Minister for European Affairs, Konrad Szymański, was quoted as saying in mid-May that Warsaw would not accept “revolutionary” cuts in the EU budget.
