Poland’s first electric Tesla S model taxi hit Warsaw’s streets on Tuesday, Poland’s Rzeczpospolita daily reported.

The iTaxi company, which leases cars to taxi drivers and runs an app, plans to buy more S model cars from Tesla, which belong to US entrepreneur Elon Musk, Rzeczpospolita said.
iTaxi has ambitious plans of switching its entire fleet, currently 10,000 cars strong, to electric within six to eight years and wants to invest in charging stations, the daily said.
But it added that limited numbers of charging stations in Poland and high up-front costs of e-cars would make it difficult for more taxi corporations to switch their fleets to electric.
“Without financial incentives, it will be difficult to achieve the government plan of one million electric vehicles [on Polish roads] by 2025,” Rzeczpospolita said. (vb/pk)
