Poland will be a partner country at the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), a two-day annual investment meeting to be held in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata on January 16-17.
According to the Polish embassy in New Delhi, the Polish delegation will be headed by Marek Magierowski, deputy foreign minister responsible for relations with Asia and economic cooperation, and it will also include Deputy Energy Minister Grzegorz Tobiszowski, and the Polish ambassador to India, Adam Burakowski.
Officials and businesspeople from the southern Polish region of Silesia, one of Poland’s “most economically robust” regions, will also be part of the delegation, according to a press release.
During the summit representatives from Silesia and the Indian region of West Bengal, with its capital in Kolkata, will sign a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation, “which will surely bring a new impetus into the development of mutually beneficial relationship between these two regions,” the Polish embassy’s Economic Section said in the press release.
The Polish delegation will also be composed of more than a dozen “prosperous Polish companies, representing mostly the energy sector, including coal mining and coking coal production,” according to the press release.
The embassy also said that Poland and India relied heavily on coal and that their “mutual goal is to increase energy efficiency,” which it said “could be done by developing energy saving, clean technologies and modernisation of energy units.”
Polish companies expected to attend the event in Kolkata offer “innovative products, technologies and services in this field,” the Polish embassy said, and “their representatives are hoping to find new business opportunities and partnerships in West Bengal.”
Showcasing Poland
Polish companies and their products and services will be showcased at the summit’s Poland Country Session on January 17, the embassy also said, adding that “Poland believes the Bengal Global Business Summit 2018 will launch new projects beneficial for the societies of our regions.”
Poland will be a partner country at the BGBS for a second consecutive year, the embassy noted.
It also said that Poland’s partnership with India’s West Bengal region dated back almost 85 years.
Over this time the partners have developed “a robust relationship” and “Poland hopes to elevate it to an even higher level,” according to the embassy.
