The university in Kraków, southern Poland, is the only higher education institution in Central and Eastern Europe to be included in this year's ranking.
The university advanced two places from the previous year, moving up to 90th place.
The “Europe's Most Innovative Universities 2017” ranking is based on an analysis of scientific publications and patent data from 2010-2015.
The Jagiellonian University said on its website that its inclusion in the ranking is largely a result of the activities of its Centre for Technology Transfer (CITTRU), responsible for patent applications.
The top spot in the Reuters ranking was retained by KU Leuven, a Belgian university, whose research spending in 2015 exceeded EUR 454 million. (rg/pk)
