In a statement, internet television network Netflix described The Witcher as a “globally popular fantasy saga from Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, that has entranced legions of fans worldwide”.
“Andrzej Sapkowski has created a rich and memorable world, at once magical and familiar,” Erik Barmack, Netflix Vice President, was quoted as saying. “We couldn’t be more excited about bringing The Witcher saga to Netflix members around the world.”
Sapkowski, who has been brought on as creative consultant for the series, said he is “thrilled” that his books will be turned into a TV series.
“I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”
A computer game based on The Witcher by Polish game developer CD Projekt RED has proved a worldwide hit.
Sapkowski’s books have topped bestseller lists in Poland for years and have been translated into 20 languages. He is the second most-often translated Polish author, after Stanisław Lem. (rg/pk)
