More than EUR 600 million came as part of the so-called Juncker Plan, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker’s ambitious initiative to inject new life into Europe's economy.
Poland received the most support of the countries that joined the European Union in 2004.
Vazil Hudák, Vice President of the European Investment Bank, told reporters in Warsaw that a large part of the bank’s funds were designed to develop infrastructure.
“We are an important financier of infrastructure projects in Poland. We engaged in strategic transport projects and helped to upgrade almost 330km of rail tracks with EUR 425 million,” said Hudák.
The bank also supported the construction of 40 km of the S7 motorway and the purchase of 30 pieces of rolling stock.
About EUR 1 billion went to Polish small and medium-sized businesses. A similar amount went to Polish local government authorities. The bank allocated around EUR 700 million to rural development.
