The European Union will invest almost EUR 2 bln to further develop Warsaw’s metro system.

The money will be used to buy new trains, to conduct maintenance work at six of the 27 existing stations, as well as to build new stations.
Warsaw’s City Hall plans to replace several of the decades-old Russian trains with 30 new ones, and to build two new sections of the second metro line at both ends: to the east and the west of the Vistula river.
The new stations should be opened by 2020. (tf/rg)
