Daimler is counting on receiving state aid for the plant, which is planned for the town of Jawor in the Lower Silesia region. The project is worth around EUR 800 million and could provide around 700 jobs, according to media reports.

Poland’s Ministry of Development said on its website the new factory will produce the latest petrol and diesel engines that meet the highest environmental standards.

Deputy Prime Minister and Development Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said: "The decision to locate a new-generation car engine factory in our country confirms Poland’s openness to foreign investment."

He added: “It also testifies to the condition of the Polish economy.”
