Polish beer at ten-year high

The beer industry in Poland has grown from strength to strength, fuelled by thirst for Polish brews in the country and abroad.

Between January and August Polish breweries produced almost 29 million hectolitres of beer – the highest in ten years.
According to data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS), over the last five years, production has increased by nearly seven million hectolitres, says the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily.
The positive results are the result of impressive sales growth in the domestic market as well as increased exports.
Experts say that if sales continue at the current rates, as much as 38 million hectolitres could be produced by the end of the year – matching thesuccess of the record-breaking 2012.
Interestingly, the largest importer of Polish beer is Hungary with almost 40,000 hectolitres in 2014. Slightly less, but still an impressive figure was exported to Holland, Germany and Italy – 35,000-36,000 hectolitres.
Polish beer was sent to markets as distant as Chile, Malaysia, Brazil, the Philippines, Vietnam, Mexico and Cuba. (rg/rk)
