The workers, who participated in the redundancy programme, will cease employment on 1 July, the company announced in a press release on Friday.

As many as 1,193 employees applied to join the programme, but 874 were accepted.

PKP Cargo explained that some of the staff were not approved to resign, based on “the need to maintain continuity of processes and due to economic conditions”.

“The severance payment under the voluntary redundancy program will take place in two stages: a payment of approximately PLN 55 million [EUR 13.18] will be paid together with the salary for June 2015. The second part, which will amount to around PLN 9.6 [EUR 2.3] million will be paid in February 2016,” the company wrote in a press statement.

In the first three months of 2015, the company made a net profit of PLN 17.67 million, down from PLN 57.53 million in the same period a year earlier. (rg)
