The figure is a rise of 12 percentage points on last year’s figure of 5.2 million Poles filing their tax returns online.

“[The higher number] is a result of the computerisation of society,” Andrzej Marczak from KPMG said.

However, while only 17 percent of the survey’s respondents said that filling out the PIT tax return is ‘difficult’ or ‘very difficult’, as many as 49 percent said that they get someone else to fill it out for them.

Out the tax returns filled out by third parties, 37 percent are completed by acountancy firms, 34 percent by family members, while 29 percent of PIT returns are filled out by friends.

Meanwhile, 40 percent of Poles file their PIT tax returns without any outside help, with 11 percent asking for partial help in completing the forms. (jb)
