The eurozone membership is unattractive to Poland in the existing situation, National Bank of Poland (NBP) President Marek Belka said on Wednesday.

The decision to enter the eurozone will be a political one and may only come when a serious crisis hits Poland, the central banker said at Breugel, a Brussels-based think-tank.
While economic factors will be important to any decision on euro accession, political considerations will be at the centre of the discussion.
With the currency union becoming more cohesive since the sovereign-debt crisis hit the zone’s peripheral countries in 2007, Poland has grown increasingly marginalised within the EU, alongside other “euro outs”, Belka said.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has also increased Poland’s interest in the euro, he added.
Nevertheless, the eurozone’s unresolved internal problems mean membership remains an unattractive prospect for Poland, Belka said. (an)
