2014 saw consumer loans breaking records in terms of both value and number, according to data presented Thursday by the Credit Information Bureau (BIK).

“This is a record value,” said BIK’s president Mariusz Cholewa, referring to the level of consumer loans.

In his opinion, in 2015, “the market should expand further,” and experts foresee the demand for such loans to increase by about five percent.

In January 2015 the BIK index which follows the demand for consumer loans increased by 1.7 percent year-on-year.

However, the number of mortgage loans dropped significantly, with numbers dropping from 198,000 to 194,000. Meanwhile the value of such loans dropped by almost four percent year-on-year. (rg)
