Deflation may last for the entirety of the first half of 2015, Finance Minister Mateusz Szczurek said on Wednesday, adding that his ministry earlier overestimated price growth forecasts.

Speaking during a lecture at the Institute of Economics at the Polish Academy of Sciences, Szczurek said that “it seems that our forecasts on inflation in 2015 were too high,” adding that “inflation will be negative for the first half of this year”.
Mateusz Szczurek underlined that deflation is problematic from the budget perspective, as “[it] is a sort of markup”, although he added that it does not comprise a threat to the budget.
