“I want to learn from the head of the NBP, and then also the Minister of Finance, about the breaking point as to when various elements of the Polish state can intervene,” President Komorowski said on Monday.
The President asked the governor of the National Bank of Poland to a meeting following the sharp increase of Swiss-franc exchange rates against the Polish złoty.
Around 550,000 Polish families have to pay higher installments on real-estate mortgages taken out in francs.
“I am striving to ensure that banks, which have profited in extending loans in foreign currencies, also share the risks, as well as the losses, of those who took out mortgages in Swiss francs, and not in Polish złoty,” President Komorowski said. (rg)
