The data was gathered by industry regulator the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) which analysed revenue figures in 20 EU countries.

TVP draws around 54 percent of its 1.4 billion zloty (around 310 million euro) income from adverts, the EBU said. This figure is the highest in the EU.

At Poland’s TVP, adverts constitute 18.34 percent of airtime. This is also the highest in the 28-country bloc.

By contrast, Hungarian national television runs adverts during just 3.1 percent of its airtime.

On the other end of the scale, the UK’s BBC draws nearly 100 percent of its revenue from TV licence fees. (rg/jb)
