Data compiled by Nielsen Audience Measurement shows that both public channels TVP1 and TVP2, as well as private rivals TVN and Polsat have been affected by the slump.

The shift has been attributed to Poland's staggered switch from analogue to digital television over the last few months, with millions of viewers being drawn to smaller channels.

From January to 13 June this year, the percentage of viewers for TVP1 in the key advertising age bracket of 16 to 49 fell by 20 percent compared to the first six months of 2012.

TVP2 saw a drop of some 15 percent, while Polsat slipped to 13 percent.

Most buoyant of the four big-hitters was TVN, which lost 5 percent of its viewers.
