Abel Korzeniowski gets Golden Globe nomination

Los Angeles-based Polish composer Abel Korzeniowski has received a nomination for a Golden Globe in the best original score category for his soundtrack to Madonna’s ‘W.E.’
The other four nominees are Ludovic Bource (‘The Artist’), Howard Shore (‘Hugo’), John Williams (‘War Horse) and Trent Reznor (‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’). Two years ago Korzeniowski won a nomination for music to Tom Ford’s ‘A Single Man’.
The Golden Globes are the most prestigious awards leading up to the Oscars. They are voted on by about 90 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The list of winners will be announced on 15 January.
Born in Kraków in 1972, Korzeniowski is a graduate of the city’s Music Academy, where he studied the cello and, subsequently, composition under the guidance of the world-renowned Krzysztof Penderecki.
He has developed a fine career in symphonic music, film soundtracks and incidental music for the theatre.
Five years ago he moved to the United States and has since collaborated on such films as ’30 Days of Night’, Battle for Terra’, ’What We Take from Each Other’, and Copernisus’s Star. His style is described as a combination of classical orchestral performance with elements of modern electronic music and ambient. (mk)
