The historic Cistercian Abbey in Wąchock, central Poland, is the venue tonight of an All Souls Day concert by the Trinity Boys Choir from London conducted by David Swindon.
The programme of the first part of the concert includes a cappella English Renaissance music. In the second part the choristers will be joined by the Concerto Avenna Chamber Orchestra directed by Andrzej Mysiński in the performance of Gabriel Faure’s monumental Requiem.
The solo parts will be sung by the eleven year-old Luke Saint and Robert Gierlach (baritone). The programme also includes the first performance of an Ave Maria setting by the Polish composer Dariusz Górniok.
Founded over 40 years ago, the Trinity Boys Choir has performed with leading London orchestras and in several Covent Garden opera productions. It also sang at a gala concert to mark the Queen’s birthday in 2007.
The concert in Wąchock is part of the ‘Music in Old Abbeys’ series, which is the brainchild of William de Mousson-Romański, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, impresario and organizer of many musical events, such as Festival de Chateau Chambord, St. Amand Music Festival in France, Clandon Park Chamber Music Festival and Beaulieu Abbey Festival in the UK.
The Cistercian Abbey in Wąchock is one of the best-preserved Romanesque monuments of architecture in Poland. Its beginnings go back to the early 12th century. (mk)
