According to official data, attendance at museums and theatres in the past year in Poland picked up, although fewer people than in 2009 went to cinemas, libraries and galleries.
At the end of last year Poland had 782 museums, 370 galleries and salons of art, 183 theatres and musical institutions – lists the report by the Main Office of Statistics (GUS) on cultural institutions in Poland. In addition, there were 443 cinemas and more than 8300 libraries.
Just over 22 million visitors were reported by museums in 2010 – 7.6% more than the year before. More popular were “artistic museums” than “historical museums”.
Although museums in Poland are generally state-owned, there were already 117 private ones in 2010, informs the office. (ek/pg)
