The orchestra was to be conducted by the prominent British conductor Paul Esswood.
He told public broadcaster Polish Radio that the composition, despite its title, is not filled with sorrow but with a sense of hope inherent in the Resurrection.
The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour from the Cross was first performed in Cadiz, Spain, on Good Friday in 1787.
The Holy Cross Church in central Warsaw is where the heart of Polish Romantic composer Fryderyk Chopin is interred in a pillar.
