The Share a Meal with the Homeless campaign is scheduled to begin on Easter Monday and run for three days in some 55 cities and towns across the country.

As part of the campaign, volunteers are expected to come to people’s homes to pick up food left over after Easter and take it to soup kitchens and eateries for the poor and homeless, the effort’s coordinator, Maria Skołożyńska, has said.

The Share a Meal with the Homeless campaign is held twice a year, at Christmas and Easter, and has drawn increasing interest from the public since it was launched in 2015, according to Skołożyńska.

The average Polish family of four wastes up to PLN 2,500 (EUR 577, USD 655) worth of food annually, according to the Federation of Polish Food Banks.
