Poland’s Żal wins US cinematography award for ‘Cold War’

Polish cinematographer Łukasz Żal has won the American Society of Cinematographers Award for his work on Paweł Pawlikowski’s “Cold War."

Other contenders for the prestigious award included Alfonso Cuarón for Roma, Matthew Labatique for A Star is Born, Linus Sandgren for First Man, and Robbie Ryan for The Favourite.
The American Society of Cinematographers Award is one of the most coveted prizes of its kind in the world.
Żal, 34, is the first Pole to win the award.
Cold War follows the love story of two people whose tempestuous relationship unfolds against the backdrop of the Cold War in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The critically-acclaimed movie is in the running for an Academy Award for best foreign-language film, best director and best cinematography.
