Among the Poles was the crew of the tall ship Dar Młodzieży, which has pulled into Panama as part of a cruise around the world aiming to promote Poland as it celebrated 100 years of independence.
Pope Francis was expected to arrive in Panama on Wednesday and to meet young people during an official welcome ceremony a day later.
Officials have invited the pontiff to visit the Dar Młodzieży, whose stop in Panama is the culmination of its voyage around the world.
The tall ship left the Polish Baltic city of Gdynia in May on its Independence Cruise.
Poland last year marked the centenary of regaining its independence after more than 120 years of foreign rule.
The World Youth Day event in Panama runs until Sunday.
