Festival to celebrate Polish pianist-turned-statesman

An international music festival celebrating the legacy of Polish pianist, composer and statesman Ignacy Jan Paderewski will open in Warsaw in late October and run for almost a month as part of events marking the centennial of national independence.

Now in its fifth year, the International Ignacy Jan Paderewski Festival will begin on October 30 and offer attractions such as symphonic and chamber concerts, film screenings and music workshops for children, artistic director Jan Popis has said.
Held in a host of venues around the Polish capital—including the National Philharmonic, the Royal Łazienki Park, the Royal Castle, and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music—the festival will run until November 28, featuring musicians from various countries.
Violin virtuoso Vadim Brodski and pianists Peter Jablonski and Eduard Kunz are among those billed to perform, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860-1941) was an internationally renowned pianist and composer as well as a prominent statesman who helped Poland regain independence in 1918 after 123 years of foreign rule.
A new production of Paderewski’s opera Manru premiered at the National Opera in Warsaw this month.
