This year’s event showcases the culture of Poland and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as all four countries mark the centenary of their independence in 2018.

Sunday's concert included works by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, Hungary’s Zoltán Kodály and 20th-century Polish composers Karol Szymanowski and Witold Lutosławski.

Anderszewski was the soloist in Szymanowski’s Sinfonie concertante.

The Sinfonia Varsovia was conducted by Andrey Boreyko.

The 10-day Bridging Europe Festival in Budapest will also feature several other Polish musicians, among them Leszek Możdżer’s Piano Quartet and the Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa band.

They will be performing as part of the Polska 100 international programme coordinated by the Warsaw-based Adam Mickiewicz Institute to celebrate the centenary of Poland’s regained independence.

Poland regained independence on November 11, 1918, the day World War I ended, after 123 years of partition by Russia, Austria and Prussia.
