Millions of deaths: exhibition shows legacy of communism

An exhibition that commemorates all those who lost their lives under communism as well as those who fought the totalitarian system is on show in the central Polish city of Radom.
The 100 Years of Communism: Crime Without Punishment exhibition was for the first time shown at the European Parliament at the end of last year.
It has since toured Polish cities including Lublin in the east of the country and the capital Warsaw.
The exhibition is a joint project by Polish MEP Marek Jurek and the European Conservatives and Reformists Group, a faction in the European Parliament, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
It quoted Prof. Marek Wierzbicki, a historian from Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance, as saying that the project is of major educational value.
According to some estimates, decades of communism cost the lives of 100 million people, and many of those responsible for communist crimes were never brought to justice, IAR said.
Poland emerged from decades of Soviet-imposed communism in 1989.
