The film, called Fuga, will be shown in the non-competition Semaine de la Critique (International Critics' Week) section.
Smoczyńska’s movie is a Polish-Czech-Swedish co-production. It tells the story of Alicja, who has lost her memory and does not remember her love for her family.
The Semaine de la Critique section was launched in 1962 and offers a review of new cinema.
Big names such as Bernardo Bertolucci, Ken Loach and Guillermo del Toro have shown their first films in the section.
Polish-British director Paweł Pawlikowski’s Cold War has been selected for screening in the main competition of the Cannes festival, which runs until May 19.
