The film is among five productions in the running for an award in the Best Animated Feature category.
The other contenders are The Boss Baby, an American computer-animated comedy; The Breadwinner, an international co-production between Canada, Ireland, and Luxembourg; Coco, a US production about a Mexican boy who dreams of becoming a musician; and Ferdinand, an American 3D computer-animated adventure film that tells the story of a giant bull with a big heart.
The winners of the 90th Academy Awards will be announced on March 4.
Loving Vincent, the world's first fully painted feature film, tells the story of the life and mysterious death of the painter Vincent van Gogh.
Each of its 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas created by a team of 115 painters using the same technique as Van Gogh. The film was directed by Poland’s Dorota Kobiela and Britain’s Hugh Welchman.
Loving Vincent is also in the running for the prestigious annual British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards.
The winners of the BAFTA awards will be announced during a ceremony on February 18 in London.
Earlier this month Loving Vincent failed to win a prize at the 75th Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, California. The accolade for Best Animated Feature went to Coco.
In December, Loving Vincent won the European Film Award in the animated feature film category.
In June last year, the film won the Audience Award at the International Animation Film Festival in Annecy, France.
Loving Vincent has proved to be the greatest financial success in the history of Polish cinema, bringing in USD 20 million worldwide at the box office, including USD 6 million in the United States.
