American film festival kicks off in Poland's Wrocław

The 8th American Film Festival opens in the southwestern Polish city of Wrocław on Tuesday.

The event, which runs until October 29, offers a total of 93 feature films, including four international premieres and four European premieres.
The festival, now in its eighth year, aims to present the full spectrum of American filmmaking, including features, documentaries and experimental movies, in addition to work by independent filmmakers.
Held at Wrocław’s New Horizons Cinema, the festival kicks off with The Big Sick, a romantic comedy by Michael Showalter, a box-office hit in the United States.
The last day of the festival will see a screening of Alexander Payne’s science-fiction satire Downsizing, starring Matt Damon.
Award-winning actress, director and producer Rosanna Arquette will be a guest of honour at this year’s festival.
