The city’s Beethoven Academy Orchestra performed excerpts from soundtracks to such acclaimed features as A Single Man, Romeo and Juliet, Escape from Tomorrow and the BAFTA-nominated Nocturnal Animals.
The highlights of the festival include the screening of James Cameron’s Titanic with music by James Horner performed live by Sinfonietta Cracovia under the Swiss conductor Ludwig Wicki.
The event, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the premiere of Titanic, will be a tribute to James Horner, who died in an air crash two years ago.
The Film Music Festival includes 18 concerts, 19 recording sessions and almost 30 workshops, panels and meetings.
Among the guests of the event are three Oscar-winning composers: John Williams (Star Wars), Jan A.P. Kaczmarek (Finding Neverland), and Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings).
Howard Shore is a recipient of the Wojciech Kilar Prize, which is given for outstanding lifetime achievement in film music. It is named after the famous Polish composer Wojciech Kilar (1932-2013), whose prolific output included over 200 film soundtracks. (mk/rg)
