“This year we decided to use the funds to purchase equipment for general paediatrics and to ensure that the senior patients receive medical care in a dignified environment,” the charity said on its website.
The campaign’s main event, called “Grand Finale”, on 15 January saw 120,000 volunteers taking to the streets, filling 180,000 collection boxes with donations.
During the Finale volunteers from around the world, including in Indonesia, China, New Zealand and the US, also campaigned for donations.
Funds were also raised through online auctions – the most expensive being an opportunity to spend the day and have dinner with European Council President Donald Tusk, which went for PLN 740,300 – and donations made by sponsors and individuals via sms and online.
Last year, WOŚP raised PLN 72,696,501, whereas in 2015 it garnered just over PLN 53 million. (vb/rg)
