Poles owe hundreds of millions in unpaid phone bills

More than 350,000 people owe money to telephone companies, with residents of small towns and villages most likely to run up debts.

The National Debt Register’s Adam Łącki said: “Most debtors come from smaller towns."

He added that residents of small towns "generally earn less, and in the event of losing their job more often have trouble finding a new position."

Almost 60 percent of such debtors are men, who owe more than PLN 496 million in total to telecommunications companies.

Poles aged between 26 and 35 are most likely to be behind in paying their phone bills.

Meanwhile, people over the age of 65 form the smallest group of such debtors.
