Charity logs PLN 3 mln, some PLN 60 mln more expected

More than PLN 3 million (EUR 686,000) has so far been paid into the Great Orchestra for Christmas Charity’s bank account after the foundation held its finale concert in Warsaw on Sunday.

The charity announced that an estimated PLN 62 million had been put into boxes around Poland on Sunday as 120 volunteers collected money during an annual drive.
Now that money is being counted and paid into the foundation’s account.
The account’s sum will be updated online until it reaches the declared PLN 62 million. Then the counter will be stopped to keep the final result of the campaign a secret until it is officially revealed on 8 March.
The money collected will be spent on medical equipment for children and elderly.
The charity will continue its drive online, through auctions in January and February.
Cufflinks donated by Polish President Andrzej Duda, a guitar from the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger and dinner with Polish football star Robert Lewandowski are among prizes to go under the hammer.
After the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity finale in 2016, the charity announced some PLN 44 million had been collected. The final result revealed a few weeks later was PLN 72 million. (vb)
