Eleven productions are on the programme of the week-long event, by seven Polish and four foreign companies, from Marseille, Madrid, Budapest and Buenos Aires. Gombrowicz lived in Argentina for over two decades following his emigration from Poland in 1939.

“The Marriage” will be presented by four companies and “Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy” in five different versions.

Founded over 20 years ago, the Gombrowicz Festival in Radom is held every two years.

Witold Gombrowicz died in 1969 at the age of 65. In addition to plays, his output includes the novels “Cosmos” and “Pornography”.

His writings have been translated into 34 languages.

A museum dedicated to Gombrowicz is located in the locality of Wsola, 10 km from Radom. It is housed in a restored mansion which once belonged to the writer’s elder brother and which Gombrowicz often visited in the 1920s and 1930s. (mk/rg)
