The programme of the five-week event includes 23 opera performances, 11 concerts of Mozart’s choral, symphonic and chamber works, as well as special attractions for children.

In addition to the Warsaw Chamber Opera House, the festival events are being held in the city’s Carmelites’ Church, the Royal Castle and the Royal Łazienki Park.

There are also four open-air concerts staged close to the Palace of Culture.

The Mozart Festival is the brainchild of Stefan Sutkowski, the former director of the Warsaw Chamber Opera, who came up with the idea of producing all of Mozart’s 22 stage works for the 200th anniversary of the composer’s death in 1991.

For many years, it was the world’s only music event giving a cross-section of Mozart’s entire operatic output.

This year, the 26th edition of the event, 16 of the composer’s operas are to be performed.

The festival rounds off on 31 July with a staging of “The Magic Flute”. (mk)
