Oscar-winner Pawlikowski working on new film

Oscar-winner Paweł Pawlikowski has confirmed that he is working on a new film that will return to the world of communist Poland, following on from his last work, 'Ida'.

The new movie, which has been provisionally titled 'Cold War', will draw on his memories of growing up in 1960s Poland.
“I want to tell the story of a couple who cannot live with or without each other,” the director told the Polish edition of Newsweek.
“It will be about a great love, caught up in the mill of history.”
Last year, Pawlikowski's post-Holocaust drama 'Ida' became the first Polish film to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.
Its success in America followed on from winning the top award at the 2013 Gdynia Film Festival, the key annual showcase of new Polish movies.
Speaking to Newsweek, the director also commented on the recent remarks of Prime Minister Beata Szydło, who said that 'Ida' did not appeal to her artistic sensibilities, and that the film portrayed Poland in a negative light.
“Although there won't be much about politics and absolutely nothing about Jews [in my next film], I'm afraid that for artistic reasons the movie still won't appeal to the prime minister's tastes,” he said. (nh/pk)
