Szymanowski’s King Roger praised by The Telegraph

The British daily The Telegraph has included the DVD of the Royal Opera House production of “King Roger” by the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski in its guide to the best classical recordings of 2015.

In its review of the DVD, produced by Opus Arte, the daily writes: “Efficiently filmed by Ian Russell, this enthralling and visually spectacular production makes a considerable impact”.
The production, premiered at the Royal Opera House on 1 May 2015, was directed by Kasper Holten, with Antonio Papano at the conductor’s podium and Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecień in the title role of the medieval King of Sicily.
The Telegraph gave the recording of “King Roger” four stars in the five-star rating. (mk/rg)
