Students of locals schools managed a total of 749 colourful chalk drawings, beating the previous record of 441 works previously held by Japanese schools.
The theme of the drawings were the life, travel and passion of late Polish Pope John Paul II.
Participating children painted flags of the countries visited by the pontiff during his papacy.
The campaign was carried out in the Stomilowski park in the city.
Preparations for the record attempt lasted two months.
The partner of the Guinness record was the Śnieżka producer of paints which provided the students with over 500 kg of coloured chalk. (rg/rk)
