It is the first such recognition of a Polish editor in the academy’s history.

The jury, who announced their verdict Monday night, stated that "the editing of Body/Ciało is an outstanding example of playful precision.”

“Underpinned by shining humour, the montage uses cinematography’s many-faceted imagery to create space for each character, for each character’s dignity, the deceased and the viewer. Jacek Drosio allows us to linger, steps up the beat where needed and shifts perspectives to compose a splendid narration that brings all pain and longing together in a good laugh," the jury panel explained.

Body/Ciało marks one in a series of Jacek Drosio’s collaborations with filmmaker Małgorzata Szumowska, alongside In the Name of, Elles, Thirty-three Scenes from Life, Stranger and Happy Man.

In 2008, Drosio won the Polish Film Award for best editing in drama Thirty-three Scenes from Life.

The European Film Academy is to be held in the German capital Berlin on 12 December. (aba/rk)
